The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The buzz surrounding The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team might be designing a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
