Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found many other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important official commented the attack left him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
